ABOUT WINTEC INNES48:
Wintec Innes48 is the largest of its kind in New Zealand and provides participants with a platform to connect with likeminded individuals, learn business fundamentals, execute rapidly & meet experienced mentors.
Named after Mary Jane Innes, one of Hamilton's pioneering female entrepreneurs, the competition starts on Friday afternoon and ends on Sunday evening.
Teams will first hear from inspirational speakers about their success, failures and learnings as an entrepreneur. Up to 15 teams will then have 48 hours to innovate and create a business. At the end of the competition the top 6 teams will pitch their newly created business to a panel of judges and an audience of 300 people. These judges will select a winner for each category - Most Viable Business, Most Innovative and Best Pitch.
In 2017, the highly energetic event attracted 22 team applications, with only the top 15 teams chosen to compete. The opening and closing ceremonies were packed to capacity with contestants, investors, sponsors, mentors, judges and business community leaders.
“A fantastic weekend that provided a solid balance of structure and flexibility to enable our idea. Grinding it out, finally getting a focus on our market segment, learning that you have to drill down to find the most numbers as a base and then broaden to wider markets once you've nailed your product/service. I've heard that over and over as something that needs to be done, but actually experiencing that and going through the process was invaluable - I can take it with me now for any business idea.”
RACHEL TEEN | 2016 INNES48 PARTICIPANT
“Just one weekend can have a life time of impact. If people choose a career in entrepreneurship because of an event like this, then the impact is astronomical. We are talking about multiple businesses, many jobs, and significant value creation. The energy you get from this event, the optimism and the excitement, you go back to your work station and you are flying.”
MICK LIUBINSKAS | CO-FOUNDER OF POLLENIZER
"I think the Innes48 concept is brilliant. It encourages people to test their limits and the experience was like no other I've had before.
Our group talked to about 70% of the mentors, all of whom offered something different and valuable to our experience. valuable experience."
